Anybody listen to the closing ceremony on TV ?

Audio totally dreadful , as was the blah music IMO. Though that they
would have had something a little more lively that what I saw. Though I
concede I didn't watch the whole thing ....

Missed it. Was sound 'slammed'?
Seems to be standard practice nowadays,
despite digital noise floor being lower than
the bowels of Hades itself.

So in what respects was it "dreadful" Engineering-wise?
Content-wise?

Both, like I said in the first post.

"Audio totally dreadful" by itself does not specify
what was wrong with it. "blah" describes your
impression of the music, a separate matter.

Damn. First time in years I didn't tape/DVR any
of the Olympics and can't go back and check
out the dreadful blah to comment on it.

Remember, the networks treat the Olympics as entertainment, NOT sports, and fast cut and mix accordingly. Naturally, all the playback was to track. The announcers were pretty much compressed to make room for the playback. I thought the "live" productions were OK, well mixed. Problem areas I thought were the pre-produced fluff pieces. Narration was buried in the music tracks.

IMHO.

The worst bit I heard sounded like the broadcast feed was taken from
field mics out in the ether somewhere, drowned in reverb both FX plus
acoustic.

And the bits of music that I heard would have have people looking blank,
yawning, and dropping off to sleep in supermarkets.
