** Nice obit article - shame most of it is nonsense.

Amar and his infamous BOSE corporation were responsible for some of the most
wrong headed, audio drivel and absurd products ever to be misconstrued as
clever invention.

" Sell the sizzle, rather than the sausage" could have been their motto,
right from day one.

As Mark Antony said: " The evil that men do lives after them ... "

Thank god the Bose 901 and its relatives are all but dead and buried.

Even in death, the BS marketing machine is going full tilt boogie. Maybe Bose Corp. is hoping for a bump in sales from his death like when a rockstar dies.

** Maybe they could release a Limited Edition Bose "Amar " - made from
highly polished wood with symmetrically angled back and front panels, plus
brass carry handles.

Think about it....

For once I have to agree with Phil. I never could stand "The Bose sound". It seemed like WOW for a second but then you quickly realized how taxing it is to your ear.

Back in the mid to late 70's, one of my bands played a major concert
near Harrisburg, PA. The sound system was provided by Clair Bros, and it
was the same sound system used by Springsteen. The whole monitor system
was Bose 800, not 804. In the mid 1970's they were impressive.

And why is that?
Why?
Because Springsteen is horrible. I can think of few American musical acts
that suck more than he does.

I liked his music for the first two albums, some excellent songwriting
and performances done with wild abandon. After that -- meh.

No, like I said, that gig where Springsteen and his band showed up was
at Sharks gig at the Village Niteclub (about 3 blocks from the
Chameleon) back in 84. Bruce and his band did the impromptu
appearance performing on the Shark's stage gear and sound system that
night. Springsteen & co. were in the area doing tour prep/rehearsals
at nearby Clair Brothers at the time. At that time in history, the
Village had live bands 6 nights a week (sometimes 7 with a Sunday
night under-21 show), and the Sharks were playing there the whole
week. Bruce and co. were staying at the former Brunswick Hotel across
the street from Village at the time (Clair brothers had put several
artists in town on tour prep up there whenever they were in town), and
poped in one nite when the Sharks were playing.

As for the Chameleon club, the Sharks have been playing there as well
in the past 10-12 years, but unfortunately, lead vocalist Sammy
"Lugar" Rawhauser passed away from lung cancer about 3 years ago.
Interestingly, his son, Ian Rauhauser is now carrying on in place of
his dad as the Sharks lead singer, and has done a few gigs at the
Chameleon ib the past couple of years starting with his first full gig
performance at the Chameleon where a tribute show for Sammy was held a
couple of years ago. It was amazing how much like his dad Ian
sounded. The Village just did it's 60 year anniversary a few months
ago, nd the Sharks (with Ian fronting) did a sold out SRO performance
there. It was cool to see Ian carry on in the 'family business', and
having the crowd totally accepted him.

Yep, the Metron (aka "Club Met"was one one of their regular

just did it's 60 year anniversary a few months ago, nd the Sharks (with
Ian fronting) did a sold out SRO performance there. It was cool to see
Ian carry on in the 'family business', and having the crowd totally
accepted him.

I did a couple shows with The Sharks at the Metron in Harrisburg with
a sound company - Parker Bandy Sound Advice. I mixed monitors. I liked
them. I've been to The Chameleon a few times with bands from State
College. I've also worked with the Lancaster band, Burning Bus, in
State College. Rick Coberly was their soundman. He brought in a small
Bag End system. I provided the monitor system. A couple times, Rick
couldn't make it, and I did their sound with my system. Rick used to
work with Clair, and installed the Bag End system at the Chameleon.
Loretta, Burning Bus lead singer, used to bar-tend at the Chameleon.

Yep, the Metron (aka "Club Met"was one one of their regular
bread-n-butter rooms. I always liked the Metron when it was in business.

BTW, I now live in Pittsburgh. There is a "Local Legend" named Joe
Grushecky in Pittsburgh who is a personal friend of Bruce Springsteen.
Joe has co-written a number of songs with Springsteen. Joe - and now
Joe's son - always sit in with Springsteen when he plays Pittsburgh.
Sometimes Springsteen will sit in with Joe's band at club dates.

** Nice obit article - shame most of it is nonsense.
Amar and his infamous BOSE corporation were responsible for
some of
the most
wrong headed, audio drivel and absurd products ever to be misconstrued as
clever invention.
" Sell the sizzle, rather than the sausage" could have been their motto,
right from day one.
As Mark Antony said: " The evil that men do lives after them ... "
Thank god the Bose 901 and its relatives are all but dead and buried.

For once I have to agree with Phil. I never could stand "The Bose
sound". It seemed like WOW for a second but then you quickly
realized how taxing it is to your ear.
Back in the mid to late 70's, one of my bands played a major concert
near Harrisburg, PA. The sound system was provided by Clair Bros, and
it was the same sound system used by Springsteen. The whole monitor
system was Bose 800, not 804. In the mid 1970's they were impressive.

Reminds of the time Springsteen showed up here in Lancaster back in 84
for an impromptu performance with a local band (the Sharks) at the
Village Niteclub (Yes, I was there).

The Sharks? I remember them ...

That wasn't at the Chameleon Club was it?

No, like I said, that gig where Springsteen and his band showed up was
at Sharks gig at the Village Niteclub (about 3 blocks from the
Chameleon) back in 84. Bruce and his band did the impromptu appearance
performing on the Shark's stage gear and sound system that night.
Springsteen & co. were in the area doing tour prep/rehearsals at nearby
Clair Brothers at the time. At that time in history, the Village had
live bands 6 nights a week (sometimes 7 with a Sunday night under-21
show), and the Sharks were playing there the whole week. Bruce and co.
were staying at the former Brunswick Hotel across the street from
Village at the time (Clair brothers had put several artists in town on
tour prep up there whenever they were in town), and poped in one nite
when the Sharks were playing.
As for the Chameleon club, the Sharks have been playing there as well in
the past 10-12 years, but unfortunately, lead vocalist Sammy "Lugar"
Rawhauser passed away from lung cancer about 3 years ago.
Interestingly,
his son, Ian Rauhauser is now carrying on in place of his dad as the
Sharks lead singer, and has done a few gigs at the Chameleon ib the past
couple of years starting with his first full gig performance at the
Chameleon where a tribute show for Sammy was held a couple of years
ago. It was amazing how much like his dad Ian sounded. The Village
just did it's 60 year anniversary a few months ago, nd the Sharks (with
Ian fronting) did a sold out SRO performance there. It was cool to see
Ian carry on in the 'family business', and having the crowd totally

I work at. I was mixing sound for this show. Willie & his bassist are
also personal friends of Springsteen. Joe is the one obviously playing a
solo. Willie is the one with frizzy hair.
