Hi,

this HD U-Tube shows a heil accident that happened last year in New Zealand.

By amazing luck, everyone involved walked away.

Nice example of how NOT the use a heli to do rigging.

Frame by frame the moment of first impact, if you can.

scarey site. It just happened so fast. and to hear the cable snapping
and whipping by the rear rotor.

That was an expensive xmas tree. Maybe a rearview mirror would be helpful for those copters.

** A longer cable was clearly needed and / or a remote cable release in the
heli.

Those involved in the accident seem to have broken countless safety
regulations governing such activity.

OTOH a too-long cable has safety problems of its own. The longer cable has a
greater tendency to get caught on things which is a common problem. It also
makes controlling the position of the load more time-consuming because any
oscillations have a longer period. Oscillations are triggered every time the
helocopter manovers in the horizontal plane.

He was *WAY* too low. Should have been much, much higher. I am also not
sure that that configuration of chopper should be used for rigging.
