I wish I could accomodate you, Denny.
I heard that song far too many times, decades ago. It was really bad then,
and I have no desire to hear it again.
Given the Youtube clips you post on Facebook, I can only say that our tastes
differ greatly. I mean, they *really* differ.

** Gotta agree with Steve here -

Iron Butterfly doing " In a Gadda Da Vida " is truly cringe worthy stuff.

What are you going to revolt us with next ???

Something really spewy like " Grand Funk Railroad " maybe ??

Steve, I'm not saying that Inna Gadda Da Vida is a musical masterpiece.
But it is CLASSIC 60's music. And, as a high school-er, it was a song
that I could play, and it went over well when my band played it. So,
what were your tastes in the 60's? I have played many styles of music in
my life & have done sound for many more.

And for Phil:

I think every garage band of the period played that song, which made it even
more
of a plague.

My taste varied quite a bit. I can still listen to much of what I liked back
then.
Beatles, early Stones, James Brown, Motown, Beach Boys, etc
I quit listening to rock around 1970, or so. Right about the time it became
self-indulgent, bloated, and boring.

more.
My career as a performer was short lived. I found I could get steadier work
and make better money per gig doing sound. This was also in the early 70s.
I have mixed for a wide variety of musical styles, both well known and
obscure artists.
My first paying gig as a "roadie" was in 1967.

My first paying gig as a "roadie" was in 1967.
My first paying gig was playing guitar in a band which focused on
playing Tommy James & The Shondells tunes (they had a number of hits). I
was in 9th grade, & the gig was a birthday party in a barn. I made $20.
In 1980, I started doing sound. In 1983 I quit playing in bands because
I realized I could make more money doing sound ... and didn't have to
deal with all the crap that goes along with band egos .... or so I
thought ....
I actually jammed with many bands I did sound for (sax & flute) for a
number of years. I could play every Jethro Tull album front to back.
Then, after a while, I quit doing that. I have a degree in music, but
these days, not much impresses me anymore.
I haven't played my instruments seriously for over a decade.

Ian Anderson....everything he knew, he stole from Roland Kirk.

I tend to prefer saying'borrowed'. :) Ian made flute *cool* in a

rock< band like no other, unlike Kirk's freestyle jazz and bop
styles. Still though, one can hear Kirk's overblow/hum
technique/influence all over Ian's playing. Ian just polished it up a
bit with a 'show' aspect. :) But then again, Ian also gave up on
guitar as being his main instrument because he felt he could never be
as good as his guitar idol, Eric Clapton.

I used to see these guys all the time between our band's summer gig
sets in Wildwood, NJ. in the 80's. I'd run down the street a few
blocks to the London Ale House to catch these guys back in the days
when all the Wildwood clubs had something of a shared professional
courtesy policy of letting other band's members/personell in for free.

This was when >real< talent was the word of the day...

As to tastes in high school, didn't really have any. I just remember
hearing the chambers brothers on fm radio, on an EICO tuner I built.
Listening to night time underground sound. The first record I owned was
ticket to ride, Beatles. First lp I bought for no particular reason, by
blue cheer. I used to play sound effects, trains etc. On my home made
speakers. Out of tech school into 1969, I just got blasted with no end to
the music, more underground sounds from WBCN. I discovered jimmy Hendrix.
That all ended when I got drafted and had to listen to Michael Jackson and
Simon and Garfunkel, made me sick!!

'BCN was a great station back then. What true 'alternative' radio embodied
in the late 60s. I spent many a night with my headphones on listening to
that
station. They played a wide variety and the commercials were very
un-commercial.
I recall Mississippi Harold Wilson, Charles Laquidara, Andy Beaubien, and
Danny
Schecter the News Dissector, among the on-air staff. They exposed me to
music I
may have never heard, otherwise.
I grew up down near Providence, RI...but their signal came in quite clear.

I grew up in Pittsburgh. WAMO fm, which I think was a black radio station,
was about the first on fm to do misc programming, with the first rock fm.

I spent 1969 working for digital equipment Corp. "Digi- tal" I had a little
fm radio I sometimes listened to WBCN before bed.

Down near Elpaso, in the army, the old X radio. There was this station
playing pop, that which would seem to be playing 60 hz tables on 50 hz, or
at least it sounded something like that. Amazing. I was definitely into
Carlos Santana. I was watching the movie Woodstock, downtown Elpaso. A
summer earlier, I was at lake George during Woodstock.

I will never forget about 7 years ago, hearing that song up a couple blocks
from downtown Vegas, just echoing, very surreal. Sounds from the past.

Hmmm, Captioned as the 'live'version.

No vox mics, no drum mics, no guitar or keyboard cables.

Maybe the band were a'live' when they made the TV appearance that this is
taken from :)

17.02 is (SFAICR) the same length as the one-side-of-the-album that I useta
play back in the 60s; and this 17.02 version would have been much longer
than the single version - and to my ears this has not been remastered.

cheers

Probably slightly before my time, but at 1.18 there is an example of some
horrendous compression that I can only associate with something that
probably did not happen in your early high school days.

Perhaps that's "remastering"? Dunno, but it sounds crap.

This particular clip says, the owner has not made this video available to
iPad or mobile devices. WTF

I'll have to look elsewhere, as I always liked it. Of course you did not
say you liked it, only how it differs, and you get a lot of weird comments.
