Post by Steve MPost by Denny StrauserSteve, I'm not saying that Inna Gadda Da Vida is a musical masterpiece.
But it is CLASSIC 60's music. And, as a high school-er, it was a song that
I could play,
I think every garage band of the period played that song, which made it even
more of a plague.
I felt the same about Pearl Jam & their wannabes.
Post by Steve MPost by Denny Strauserwhat were your tastes in the 60's?
My taste varied quite a bit. I can still listen to much of what I liked back
then.
Beatles, early Stones, James Brown, Motown, Beach Boys, etc
I quit listening to rock around 1970, or so. Right about the time it became
self-indulgent, bloated, and boring.
It took me about 2 decades to come to the same conclusion. I have a
degree in music but cannot listen to much music anymore for pleasure.
Post by Steve MPost by Denny StrauserI have played many styles of music in my life& have done sound for many
more.
My career as a performer was short lived. I found I could get steadier work
and make better money per gig doing sound. This was also in the early 70s.
I have mixed for a wide variety of musical styles, both well known and
obscure artists.
My first paying gig as a "roadie" was in 1967.
My first paying gig was playing guitar in a band which focused on
playing Tommy James & The Shondells tunes (they had a number of hits). I
was in 9th grade, & the gig was a birthday party in a barn. I made $20.
In 1980, I started doing sound. In 1983 I quit playing in bands because
I realized I could make more money doing sound ... and didn't have to
deal with all the crap that goes along with band egos .... or so I
thought ....
I actually jammed with many bands I did sound for (sax & flute) for a
number of years. I could play every Jethro Tull album front to back.
Then, after a while, I quit doing that. I have a degree in music, but
these days, not much impresses me anymore.
I haven't played my instruments seriously for over a decade.
