I wonder if there is anyone else out there who has had my experience with
EON stuff. It sounds good, is light, but I have now taken in my 518S
powered subs for the SEVENTH warranty repair in the two years since I bought
them.

To their credit, JBL has repaired them for free, but this is driving me
nuts! I'm in a lounge-volume classic country band with some older,
experienced musicians, and we have not abused these speakers in any way.
The 18" neo woofer has been no problem, but I have blown seven power
modules. JBL even replaced the both modules two repairs ago.

Am I just the unluckiest guy on earth or are these things really crap?

They were not that cheap.

They are crap. They always have been. They used to be more reliable but didn't sound very good. Now they sound better but are not very reliable. JBL's lower end gear has gone the way of Mackie. Cheaply produced in China by contractors with cheap parts. But that orange logo allows them to command a relatively high price for something marginally better than Behringer.

I find this is the way to operate a lot of today's mi gear.
Don't run it anywhere near the edge. Example, Mackie
mixers. Don't push 'em anywhere near red, stay in the
yellow, forget the eq, use mic placement to get the sound
you want if possible. We've all heard "yellow is the new
red" I'm sure.

If you need more boom from your powered subs get another
pair, and parallel them <g>.

ITs' the only way to deal with today's disposable junk made
in third world countries.

Regards,
Richard
